This Sunday, Doug Hollums and his wife Arlene will be with us. Doug is applying for our pastor job and will be preaching for us this week. Please come. We will be asking for your help in choosing the new pastor so it is important to be here if at all possible. Next week, Aaron de Neui ( pronounced ' deny' ) will be here for us to meet and hear.
We are not having a preaching contest, there are many other factors involved. In order for you to know as much as possible, let me tell you about Doug Hollums. He is 61 years old, he is very well educated with a Masters degree from Multnomah Seminary in Portland. He is married and has 5 grown children. He has been working for the last 8 years or so as a chaplain at Good Samaritan hospital in Newport. He owns a home in Depoe Bay. He has been a bi-vocational pastor in Bend in 2011 and in Silverton 20 years ago. He has worked regular jobs as well, he drove commercial trucks, owned an insurance agency, worked as a loan officer for a bank.
He is smart, knowledgeable, excited about the possibilities and potential in our church. His wife is a retired nurse. He has much less pastor experience than Aaron de Neui. He does know our Northwest culture, he has a pastor's heart and great caring skills from his chaplain experience. I met with him this week and liked him and felt he could be q good fit here.
We are going to have a light lunch after the service to give all of us time to speak with Doug and Arlene. I know it is Mother's Day this Sunday but stay as long as you can.
